Panthers pull out a
tight one against a formidable Mill City Maulers |
| July
14- Boston - The Panthers improved to 2-0 against the
New England Football League's AAA Mill City Maulers on
the Panthers first annual Fight against Lupus game at
Boston English High school.
The Maulers proved to be a
tough opponent for the mighty Panthers as it was a
defensive struggle for the first 1 1/2 quarters. The
Panther defense was its usual self in stopping any
offensive progress the Maulers could muster up via a
standout game by the defensive live led by Hasan "Hos"
Goode (13 total tackles) and constant pressure on the
Maulers' QB. The opening score came midway through the
second quarter when Lorenzo Marshall III (2TDs) sliced
through the Maulers defense for a 9 yard TD run.
The Play of the game came with
just 15 seconds left in the second quarter when Rodrick
"Bama" Smith (2INT, TD) picked off a Maulers' pass and
returned it 60 yards for a thrilling score. Going into
halftime, the Panthers led the Maulers12-0.
As the Panthers kicked off the
second half, the Maulers looked to last year's QB Alexis
Colon to resurrect their offense. He was able to pass
and run for a TD as the Maulers kept the Panther
faithful on the edge of their seats. However, the
Panthers showed their experience and grit in passing and
rushing for 2 additional scores to put the game away
midway through the fourth quarter.
Other Panthers who turned in a
great performances include: Jug Alcindor, the entire
Offensive line, Vladimir Joseph and Special teams.
Join the Panthers as they open
their North American Football League conference schedule
on July 12th at Boston English against the Pittsfield
Aces. |
